about VALI

PROJECT OVERVIEW

VALI - Vietnamese American Leadership Initiative aims to bridge the generational gap and create a pathway for the next generation to discover their potential and contribute to the community's growth. By nurturing emerging leaders, VALI seeks to inspire a renewed sense of purpose, unity, and empowerment among Vietnamese Americans.

Through VALI, we provide a comprehensive platform that equips participants with essential leadership skills, cultural awareness, and a deep understanding of their heritage.

VALI designed to empower and develop emerging leaders within the Vietnamese American community. It consists of three main components, along with an internal team-building element:

1. Leadership Mixer

The Leadership Mixer serves as a platform for networking and learning from established leaders who have faced various leadership challenges. The guests will share their personal leadership stories, discuss the issues they encountered, and provide insights into how they achieved their current positions. The mixer creates a welcoming atmosphere, where attendees can engage in meaningful conversations over drinks and light refreshments.

2. Mentorship Program

The Mentorship Program is aimed at supporting young individuals aged 18 to 35 by providing them with an opportunity for one-on-one mentorship in a specific field of interest. Each participant is paired with a mentor who will guide and support them throughout the program. The mentorship encourages participants to dedicate 1-2 hours per week for 4 months to engage in meaningful discussions and gain valuable insights from experienced professionals.

3. Leadership Training Camp

The Leadership Training Camp is an intensive 8-12 weeks educational program that covers various aspects of Vietnamese American history, including the experiences of boat people and the contributions of the local community. Additionally, participants undergo training in essential leadership skills, including:

  • Strategic Skills: Learning to think critically, plan effectively, and set long-term goals.
  • Operating Skills: Developing the ability to execute plans and manage day-to-day tasks efficiently.
  • Courage: Fostering the confidence to take calculated risks and make tough decisions.
  • Energy & Drive: Cultivating a proactive and motivated approach to leadership.
  • Organizational Positioning Skills: Understanding how to position the organization or oneself for success.
  • Personal and Interpersonal Skills: Developing emotional intelligence, communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with others.
